NOTICE OF RACE
2022 Dog Days of Summer Regatta

1. Rules
1.1 The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing. 1.2 The rules of the Wayfarer International Class Association will apply.
1.3 Sunday races will be Fleet Races.
1.4 Single-handed racing is allowed.
1.5 Separate divisions and awards for Spinnaker and Jib-and-Main (if we have enough participants).
2. Eligibility
2.1 The regatta is open to all Wayfarers and CL16 boats.
2.2 Eligible boats may enter the regatta by emailing Marc Meyer at mameyer@yahoo.com the following information: Boat Skipper name, sail number, and email address no later than Friday, August 19th. 2.3 Eligible boats must register on-site between 900 and 1000 EDT Sunday, 8/19/22.
3. Fees
3.1 This is a free event.
3.2 A Metropark annual sticker or a day pass ($20 for vehicle & boat) is required to get into the park.
4. Schedule of Racing and Events
4.1 Sunday, 8/19/22 1000 hrs: Competitors’ Meeting
4.2 Sunday, 8/19/22 1100 hrs: Warning Signal of first of up to 7 races; break at approx. 1230 for lunch 4.3 Sunday, 6/19/22: No warning signal after 1600
5. Sailing Instructions
5.1 The Sailing Instructions are available online and at registration:

5.2 Races will be windward/leeward and/or triangle courses.
5.3 Boats in the Spinnaker Division and the Jib-and-Main Division will race together. 5.4 If more than 4 participants, Wayfarers/CL16’s will get their own start. Otherwise all registered boats start together.
6. Venue
6.1 Races will be sailed on Stony Creek Metropark Lake. The site address is 4300 Main Park Dr., Shelby Township, MI 48316
6.2 Competitors may rig and launch at the park boat launch ramp (N42° 43.128 W83°5.116).
7. Scoring
7.1 Completion of one race will constitute a series.
8. RaceQs
8.1 To enable both real-time tracking and post-race analysis, competitors must carry a GPS tracking device. These include smart phones with RaceQs activated (RaceQs.com) or a GPS device available to check-out at registration. Competitors without a GPS track will not be scored, unless due to a technical error.
8.2 RaceQs is a free app that records sailing data and creates a 3D replay of each race online. The app shows the relative position of each boat, as well as a host of other data including speed and VMG.
8.3 RaceQs phones or a similar device, as well as protective covers, will be available for competitors who don’t have their own. The GPS device should be placed as near the mast as possible.
9. Prizes
9.1 Prizes will be awarded for first and second place in the Spinnaker division, first and second place in the Jib-and Main division (if there are enough participants).
10. Disclaimer of Liability
10.1 Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See RRS Rule 3, Decision to Race. RRS 3 states: “The responsibility for a boat’s decision to participate in a race or to continue to race is hers alone.” By participating in this event each competitor agrees and acknowledges that sailing is a potentially dangerous activity with inherent risks. These risks include strong winds and rough seas, sudden changes in weather, failure of equipment, boat handling errors, poor seamanship by other boats, loss of balance on an unstable platform and fatigue resulting in increased risk of injury. Inherent in the sport of sailing is the risk of permanent, catastrophic injury or death by drowning, trauma, hypothermia or other causes. Neither the organizing authority nor the hosts will accept any Liability for material damage or personal injury, sickness, or death sustained in conjunction with, or prior to, during, or after the regatta.
10.2 No sailor may participate without first signing a waiver of rights.
11. Insurance
11.1 Each participating boat shall be insured with a valid third party liability insurance with a minimum coverage of $100,000.
12. Meals
12.1 Sunday lunch is BYO (Bring Your Own) food & drink. We will gather at communal picnic tables to share stories and meal.
