Scirocco (W11384) Sails Steady Southwesterly, Spot-on, for HOT Win!

John and Mary Driver are perhaps the most unassuming sailing team one might meet. Their self deprecating humor belies their keen sense of wind, water, and courses, earned from years of racing and Trans-Atlantic cruising. Their HOT regatta win follows their wins at West River and the NOOD in Annapolis. A stellar record by any measure. Theirs was not the only story of steady rolling. Uwe and Nancy Heine ( Anansi W11338) exhibited speed up-wind and great sense of boat placement downwind to place a very secure second place. Ann-Marie Covington and Gareth Ferguson (Intrepid W11134), never far from the podium, placed third. Our fleet favorite father, Jim Heffernan and his son Mark ( Dawn Treader W8705) perfected the down-wind reach to drop in spider like at the leeward mark from the far corners, earning a fourth place. These are just few of the stories. The sailing conditions were nearly perfect; almost test lab like in consistency. Regardless of placement, it was just an excellent day to sail. All of us are grateful to LTYC for hosting this classic regatta, and doing it so well with care and forethought. Jerry Thompson the PRO is perhaps the best in the Southeast and it is a pleasure sail when he is managing the course. I could have sailed until the sun set, I look forward to next year.
