Fleet 15’s AnnMarie Covington and crew Gareth Ferguson sailed to first place in the Governor’s Cup and Wayfarer Eastern Championships held June 18-19 on Kerr Lake, Henderson, N.C. Second place for the Governor’s Cup went to North Carolina team Ali Kishbaugh with crew Neil Smith, followed by Michigan’s Marc Bennett and Julie Seraphinoff. For the Easterns, Bennett/Seraphinoff were second followed by Kishbaugh/Smith. Covington was also awarded the Top Woman Helm award for the Governor’s Cup. The weekend event was dominated by strong winds both days, leading to a number of Wayfarers capsizing. Canada’s David and Anne Pugh even helped rescue a youth team sailing in a 420. Both girls were waterlogged but fine, as were their phones and Croc sandals. Regatta volunteers Andrew Fine and Courtney Caswell have provided seven albums of visual coverage of the overall event.

While Ali Kishbaugh came into the Kerr Lake event as a 10th seed, she sailed to a second place overall for the Governor’s Cup and third for the Eastern Championships. She teamed up with Neil Smith in W11137. Photo by Michele Parish
Marc Bennett and crew Julie Seraphinoff earned third place honors for the Governor’s Cup and second for the Wayfarer Eastern Championships. Notice how the East Lansing, Mich. team strategically placed their W11339 Red Sky in the background for award photos. Photo by Michele Parish
